How We Operate

With the support of our comprehensive region-wide membership of independent locally-based racial equality organisations and working closely with the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Rights and Equality West Midlands pursues its constitutional aims of eliminating discrimination and promoting human rights, equality of opportunity and good relations between different groups.

It coordinates its member organisations’ inputs into human rights and race equality promotion, public policy development, community regeneration and cohesion, legal casework and public awareness-raising.

It initiates an implements effective national, regional and sub-regional strategy in complainant aid and anti-racial harassment work, policy development, community development, and public awareness raising.

It markets and provides tailor-made race equality and equality solutions for public authorities, private companies and voluntary bodies seeking to realise race equality goals or comply with their statutory obligations.

It assists member organisations to build their capacity to provide high quality racial and other equality services at local level.

It specialises in consultancy, research and development, and training in the management of diversity.  Where possible this is undertaken in partnership with locally-based racial equality organisations.

Resources to support these operations are obtained:

  • by seeking funding to support the organisation and its general aims.

  • by writing applications to funding bodies for funds to support relevant projects and outcomes by REWM, or by REWM in partnership with other race equality organisations.

  • by tendering for race equality and equalities projects in the public, voluntary and private sector, and winning contracts to deliver particular services.

  • marketing and selling race equality services.
