Immigration and Race Relations - Sociological Theory and John Rex edited by Tahir Abbas and Frank Reeves

This book edited by Tahir Abbas and Frank Reeves and published by IB Taurus, is meant as a tribute to John Rex and his lifelong contribution to sociology and social theory.

It comes in four parts:

Part I is devoted to John Rex’s life, ideas and contribution to sociology, and contains chapters by Professor Richard Jenkins, Kamta Karran, Laura Velasco and Oscar Contreras, a truly international set of contributions.

Part II is headed: Key problems in sociological theory: exploring the implications of John Rex’s neo-Weberianism.  It contains chapters by Professor Martin Bulmer and Professor Margaret Archer.

Part III commemorates John Rex’s contribution to social policy on integration and race equality and is written by Professor Robert Moore, Professor Thomas Hammar and Professor Stephen Steinberg.

Finally, Part IV deals with the race relations of the city, revisiting John Rex’s field research in Sparkbrook and Handsworth in Birmingham, with contributions by Dr Tahir Abbas, Professor Sally Tomlinson, and Dr Frank Reeves.
