others by invitation) meets on a regular basis to agree our
strategic direction, budget, and work programme.

Rights and
Equality West Midlands was set up to provide support and
capacity-building services to these organisations or their
predecessors. This is why they continue to play a lead role
in its governance. Unfortunetly, funding by the National
Lottery for race equality capacitybuilding in the West
Midlands came to an end in March 2006, and no further
grantaid for this purpose has been made available. We are
most grateful that despite this situation, they continue to
give us their wholehearted support.
To qualify
for membership of the West Midland Race Equality Forum,
organisations should have a primary purpose in promoting
some aspect of race equality at some local level. However,
with the move towards generic equality inspired by the
creation of the Equality and Human Rights Comission, the
Forum is inclined to interpret this criterion flexibility.
If you feel your organisation might benefit from Forum
membership and would like to join, please contact, Amir
Kabal, Honorary chair, at East Staffordshire Racial Equality
Council: tel 01283 510 456. Email:
administration@eaststaffsrec.co.uk.
The Forum
is also closely linked and provides the West Midlands arm of
the national Federation of Race Equality Councils. Members
of the West Midlands Race Equality Forum automatically
qualify as members of the national body.
