Midlands Monitoring Network to Combat Extremism
Terms of
reference are:
In
partnership with the Birmingham office of the EHRC, REWM
chairs and provides documentation and secretarial support
for the Midlands Monitoring Network to Combat Extremism. It
seeks to broaden attendance by, for example, arranging
meetings jointly with the Midlands Trade Union Congress.
Information is exchanged and measures to halt the electoral
success of the racist far-right discussed.
REWM has
provided comprehensive analysis of the May 2007 local
elections results and circulated all members with copies of
its chronology of racist extremism:
From BUF to BNP.
This book has proved popular, with a steady stream of orders
arriving from bookshops, nationally and internationally.
There has
also been unprecedented demand for REWM’s guide for local
authorities and elected members on what they might do to
confront the racist activities of political parties (RED
18).
Membership
of the Midlands Monitoring Network to Combat Extremism is by
invitation. Meetings are held regularly, particularly in
periods leading up to election. Please contact REWM (0121
250 3859), or EHRC regional office for further details.
