Race equality organisations
Rights and
Equality West Midlands was originally set up to serve the
race equality organisations of the region (REOs). They
remain our closest associates and partners (click for
details of
West Midlands race equality organisations).
Federation of Race Equality Organisations
We soon
reached the conclusion that race equality organisations
needed a national body to express their interests. Waqar
Azmi, our first chief executive launched the Federation of
Race Equality Councils (FOREC) at a conference in Birmingham
in 2001. (Click here for
details of the
Federation of Race Equality Councils).
Commission for Racial Equality
Until
2007-08, many race equality organisations received grant aid
from the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE). REWM
retained close links with the CRE untill its closure at the
end of September 2007 (click for details of
Commission for Racial Equality).
Equality
and Human Rights Commission
We hope to
establish and maintain an equally mutually-supportive
relationship with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)
(click for details of the
Equality and Human Rights Commission).
Regional
bodies
We maintain
links with all of the principal regional agencies (click
Principal West Midlands-wide agencies).
Discrimination Advice partner
In 2004,
conscious of the importance of the race equality movement
continuing to provide discrimination information, advice and
representation services to complainants of discrimination,
Race Equality West Midlands set up the West Midlands
Discrimination Advisory Service (WMDAS), first as a project,
and then as an independent partnership based at the School
of Legal Studies, the University of Wolverhampton (click for
West Midlands Discrimination Advisory Service).
Training
partners
As part of
our race equality organisation capacity-building, we have
arranged education and training programmes with regional
universities (click
higher education collaboration). We
have also worked closely or in partnership with a select
number of specialist training and research agencies. (Click
our recommended training and research associates).
Our
membership of regional equality networks
With
others, we have set up and support with our administrative
and secretarial services a number of strategically-important
equality networks (click
our membership of regional equality networks).
Business
links
Rights and
Equality West Midlands has been subcontracted to assist
other agencies (mainly private consultancies) to deliver
highly-quality specialist race equality outcomes. Please
feel free to discuss with us any commercial proposition that
you think we can help you with.
Other
links
REWM
maintains links as far as resources permit with other
national, regional, sub-regional and local organisations in
the public, private and voluntary sector, (see
Other links).
