Rukhsana
Kabal
BA (Hons)
Rukhsana Kabal is Personal Assistant (to the chief
executive) and Projects Officer at Race Equality
West Midlands. Fascinated from an early age by
computers and their multiple applications, she
developed an interest in the use of information
technology to enhance business management, and went
on to study Business Information Technology at
Coventry University, gaining an honours degree in
that subject in 2005. |
During her
university studies, she undertook a summer placement at RPM
Retail Project Management where she was given the
opportunity to hone her project management skills. After
higher education, she worked as a tutor in English for
Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for Central Education
Training, helping others to gain better qualifications and
using her knowledge of project management to develop
improved tutorial management systems.
Rukhsana is
an active member of and volunteer at East Staffordshire
Racial Equality Council and has, from time to time, been
engaged in delivering its translation contracts and, as a
fluent Urdu writer and speaker, acting as a translator and
interpreter. From a young age, she has shown a keen
interest in local community and race relations.
Joining
Race Equality West Midlands in September 2006 as a trainee
support officer, the chief executive rapidly recognised her
strengths in information technology and project management
and appointed her to work closely with him on training and
research projects and improving the REWM website. She
contributed to the development, field work, progress-chasing
and finalisation of the REWM research project on community
cohesion in schools, and is acknowledged as joint author of
the final report.
Rukhsana
has attended training courses in other areas of equality
such as disability, gender, race discrimination, conflict
resolution, and community cohesion. She is a highly
committed, enthusiastic and motivated individual, who has
used her skills to develop new projects and direction for
Race Equality West Midlands. Her current work involves
researching the aftermath of 9/11, the rise of violent
extremism, and its likely impact on good community
relations.
