Sustainability West Midlands

Sustainability West Midlands is the independent champion of sustainable development in the West Midlands.

Its membership is drawn from a variety of organisations and businesses across the region. All members give their time voluntarily and they are funded through contributions from regional partners. Sustainable development means creating a better quality of life for all, now and in the future, by tackling environmental, economic and social issues in an integrated way and finding co-ordinated solutions.

The UK government and national organisations are working together with other international governments in tackling these issues on a world-wide basis. SWM will represent this work in the West Midlands. It also forges links and partnerships between the local and global in order to support moves towards a more sustainable West Midlands in the 21st Century.

SWM will:

  • Review the sustainability of the region at present and identify processes and policies which are currently undermining this.
  • Identify important unsustainable trends and recommend action to reverse them.
  • Deepen understanding about sustainable development, increase awareness of the issues raised, and build agreement.
  • Encourage and stimulate good practice.
