Trade Union Membership Policy
1. Rights and
Equality West Midlands employees shall have the following
rights in respect of trade union
membership and activities:

to be a
member of a trade union of their choosing.

as a member
of a trade union recognised by Rights and Equality West
Midlands for negotiating purposes to be allowed reasonable
time off to take part in trade union activity (eg to attend
meetings discuss and vote on the outcome of negotiations
with the employer, to meet with full-time officials to
discuss matters relevant to the workplace, to vote in
ballots on industrial action, to vote in union elections).
‘Reasonable time’ will not normally amount to more that two
days in any one leave year for a union member or five days
in any one leave year for an elected union
representative/official.

This document was approved by the Board in 2003 and was
reviewed in October 2007 with the next
date of review
scheduled for January 2009.
